Cena mare, monti e campagna — Terrible flavour combination

Tonight I baked in the oven common dabs (Limanda limanda) with lemon juice & zest, EVOO, capers, chili flakes, black pepper, and chives. It would have been absolutely spot on if it had been served with green salad or roasties, but no! 

I decided to fry yellow foot (Cantharellus tubaeformis) and shiitake (Lentinula edodes) mushrooms, and to prepare lentil stew with mirepoix-base. I knew these flavour combinations would not work, but I just felt like having mushrooms and lentils, too.  I am not infallible.
